Below we are showing the results of the simulation of an angled MMI coupler. Whereas regular MMI couplers can only produce 0/100 or 50/50 power splitting, the angled MMI is known to be able to produce adjustable splitting ratio by introducing a phase shift at the 3-dB imaging plane of the MMI [1].
In the animation sweep we have changed the angle in the MMI section from 0 to 2 degrees. According to theory we would expect, for this example, to reach the bar state at an angle of ~1.8 degrees, which agrees quite well with our animation.
